Autoantibodies and disease characteristics in rheumatoid arthritis
Principal Investigator: Prof. Dr. Veerle Somers
In this project we will focus on the correlations between auto-antibodies as biomarkers and disease markers in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This allows us to validate the diagnostic and prognostic potential of candidate biomarkers and to investigate the biological relevance of the new antigen-antibody responses in the disease process. In the context of this project, blood samples and clinical data of RA patients and controls were already collected over a period of three years. Already identified biomarkers contribute to improved diagnosis of seronegative patients. In addition, these auto-antibody markers play an important role in the prognostic and therapeutic decisions.
